I realized something while watching the season finale of Teen Mom. Our society does such a disservice to young girls. If not taught otherwise by someone, young girls will be taught by American culture that they are not good enough--on any level. They often learn the false belief that they have to sell themselves incredibly short in life. They are often riddled with low self esteem and self worth and it breaks my heart.
It's an automatic uphill battle for girls in our society. Our cultural mandates of women are hideous and outrageous. If one raises girls you must be DILIGENT and it is absolutely necessary for them to have an active, full-time father in their lives who sees the importance of teaching them sound biblical truths about what it means to be a woman who engages with society, including boys/men and how a good man should treat them.
A father of a daughter is the first 'boyfriend' of a daughter. This will be the man in her life for a long time. Therefore, he must show her through his actions and treatment of her and her Mom how a woman is to be treated by a good, Godly man. This is a huuuuge and very important task of a father. Sadly, there are not enough men today that do this for their daughters. Therefore, most girls today are severely crippled and allowed into the big world without the proper tools to truly succeed. Hence, they are left to look for love and acceptance in all the wrong places led by the thinking they must augment almost everything about themselves in order to be good enough. Super, super sad. Ridiculous, actually.
Kevin and I have talked about this many, many times in the event we ever have daughters. He fully embraces the task ahead should we have a daughter in the home in a few weeks. It's a great honor for any man/husband to have the responsibility of mirroring God's image through their own actions to their daughter as to set them up for the cruel world they will have to withstand.
