Date Night

Every Friday night is date night with the hubs. We do lots of different things on our date nights. These evenings certainly don't have to consist of us dressing up and going to a fancy dinner. Actually, this rarely happens. I love a good experience and totally appreciate soaking up a good moment and not rushing through. However, spending loads of money on food...and regularly at that..it's not for us.

So, on that note, we do any and everything on our Friday night date nights. For example, this past Friday, yesterday evening, one of our two main goals after dinner was to go shop for new wall art for the house and to decide on a infant seat and stroller. Romantic, huh. (In our defense, we have been sooo incredibly busy that this was the only time we could get these things done.) We hit up about five stores after dinner and then headed off to a 10:30pm movie that we have both been wanting to see, Courageous. We were exhausted by the time we made it to the theater, but it wasn't anything some Hot Tamales and buttered movie theater popcorn couldn't fix.

In the midst of major life change, a completely chaotic house, large-scale planning for the future a midst all of our normal to-do's and weekly obligations, we have been worn out. Like going to bed and passing out before our heads can even hit the pillow tired. I have been sleeping so well, it's amazing!

The movie Courageous was just what we needed. I won't offer a spoiler alert, but you should totally go see them movie. Especially if you're a man or a father---it's a must. Anyhow, my take away: when you are gifted with becoming a parent you are given a divine privilege by God. You have now become an Earthly parent through which God will work. Your child belongs to God. He is temporarily entrusting this child to you to nurture and grow and to be a disciple of God. You are growing your child to be a leader for Christ. This is your mission . Everything you do, everything you say, all the things you aren't doing...your kids see it all and are learning from it. So set the bar high because God has. So rise to the challenge and see the enormity and gravity of the task at hand. Other than serving God and serving your spouse there is no greater challenge in life. So don't take becoming a parent lightly.

Kevin and I have been thinking about how we want to raise our babies intently for the past 2 years. This is not something we take lightly. For sure, we will make tons of mistakes, but I promise that we will do the very best job that we possibly we can and we have prepared our hearts with God at the helm.
